US President Barack Obama delivering remarks on the US economy from the State Dining Room at the White House in Washington, DC, yesterday. Mr Obama yesterday defended America’s credit after Standard & Poor’s downgraded its top notch debt rating, insisting the economy’s woes were “eminently solvable” with political will. Mr Obama said he would table his own proposals for cutting the US deficit “in the coming weeks”, saying the United States will always be a triple-A country and also urged Republicans to agree to tax hikes on the richest Americans.
