The men’s Summer League continued last weekend with two matches at the Marsa Oval. Melita took on Krishna in the first game and Overseas faced Marsa next.

Krishna batted first with Simon Mayeri and Andy Lenard opening the innings. Mayeri did not trouble the scorers and was soon back at the pavilion.

Lenard went on to retire (local rule where a batsman leaves the crease after facing 30 balls). He scored 30 runs.

Bikram Arora also retired, scoring 31 runs which included one six and two fours as Sam Aquilina played well for 12 runs. With extras, the Krishna team totalled 112 runs.

The game was in a balance in Melita’s reply until Ian Pendlebury scored a superb 30 from 22 balls.

Nowell Khosla also made 30 runs and batted well, hitting two sixes and a four as the winning runs came in the 18th over for Melita.

Thanks to their win Melita have now joined Krishna on the eight-point mark in the standings.

Mike Caruana and Roger Bradley opened the batting for Overseas.

Both managed to retire, Caruana scoring 27 runs and Bradley three.

Paul Bradley also retired and scored 25 runs as seven other batsmen totalled 24 runs between them.

Sarfraz Ali was the main wicket taker for Marsa with three.

The Marsa batting proved too strong to win thanks to fine performances from Dave Borg (26), Matt Booth (19), Frank Spiteri (12), Mark G. Sacco (12) and George Agius (10).

Marsa are now leading the stan-dings with 14 points. Overseas are rock bottom.

On Saturday, Melita play Overseas and Marsa take on Krishna.
