London-based team All-Stars lived up to expectations as they outplayed Montpellier 5-2 in last weekend’s final at the Victor Tedesco Stadium to claim the Malta International Tag Rugby Festival honours.

Over 100 players turned up for the inaugural festival that featured teams from England, Scotland and France. A highlight for the locals was Gozo Rugby League registering their first victory when they beat Ayr Boys, of Scotland, 10-7.

But it was All-Stars and Montpellier who showed the better qualities in sweltering heat and deservingly qualified for the decisive match.

Montpellier’s Benjamin Tho-mas was named Player of the Match in the qualifiers and Belinda Walmsley put together a perfect final to claim the best player award in the match that mattered most.

In a statement, Malta Tag Rugby officials thanked their volunteers and all involved in supporting the event, notably sponsors Nordic Bar where the presentations took place.
