We are in complete disbelief that we are sitting and writing an appreciation for our best friend. As we write, we are browsing through many photographs of us as children, others of recent months... and what strikes us is that Sara’s beaming smile is present in each one of them.

Opening old diaries, we find messages and funny poems she had written to us at school, next to which she would comically sign her signature and write: “For future reference – It might be worth millions one day.” It means so much more to us now! Being told of your sudden and tragic demise that morning of July 4 was too much of a shock.

Having just seen you the day before, in perfect health, cooking a terrific meal for us, this was incomprehensible.

We feel honoured that Sara was one of our closest, most loyal, considerate and supportive friends. Sara’s passing has saddened the hearts of so many – whether they were classmates at the cxonvent of the Sacred Heart School or St Aloysius College 6th form or work colleagues. Even more so, she has truly left her mark on her family, boyfriend David and close friends.

It is so incredibly hard to fathom the idea of Sara not being with us anymore but we know that she must be in a better place and feel comforted knowing she is with her father now as we were aware of her struggle dealing with his loss. Apart from that, we know that Sara’s job as a social worker was not easy but she took it very seriously and persevered on a daily basis. Despite the hardships she faced, she was such a happy person who enjoyed the company of her friends as well as relaxed time at home with her boyfriend and her family. She was especially fond of her nephew, John Paul, and simply loved looking after him. We will never let go of all the happy, funny and precious memories we had growing up together.

Sara’s jovial disposition and witty sense of humour would often bring people together and this was evident by the packed congregation at Tal-Ibraġ church, paying their last respects at her funeral.

Our deepest condolences go to Sara’s dear and strong family: her mother Grace, brother Mark, sister Kristina, brother-in-law Timothy, nephew John Paul and her boyfriend David.

They must feel so proud of all that Sara represented and all the love, care, consideration and affection that she demonstrated. May the Lord bless and comfort them.

Even though we are going to miss her so dreadfully, we feel blessed to have had her in our lives.

We are convinced Sara is with God and all her loved ones in heaven. Goodbye, our dear friend, our borrowed angel. May God grant you eternal rest.
