Sliema council protested today that Enemalta put businesses before residents when it postponed a power cut to last Sunday from the previous Thursday.

The council said Enemalta had originally announced a power cut in Tower, Tigne, Bisazza and Hughes Hallet streets for maintenance purposes, but then after consultation with the Sliema Business Community, it put off the power cut for last Sunday.

"In other words, the inconvenience that was to be suffered by the business was transferred to the residents, who had to spend a hot summer's day suffering a nine-hour power cut," the council said.

The council said Enemalta never attempted to consult it.
