The University’s Department of Pharmacy has a new four-legged team member named Beau, the guide dog for receptionist and telephone operator Joey Micallef.

Beau, a two-year-old male labrador retriever, was brought to Malta at the age of four months to train for a year.

Subsequently, Beau spent another six months training in Messina at the Centro Regionale Hellen Keller dell’Unione Italiana Ciechi Scuola Cani Guida. Following this, Joey and Beau met for the first time.

The training of both the dog and owner was co-ordinated by the Malta Guide Dog Foundation and sponsored by the Community Chest Fund.
