Cricket: Graeme Swann has declared himself fit for England’s third Test against India at Edgbaston. The second match of the series was littered with injuries and, while the tourists have confirmed Yuvraj Singh and Harbhajan Singh have been ruled out of the series, Swann has provided England with some good news. England name their squad tomorrow and are likely to name the same 12 for the third match in a row, with Chris Tremlett rejoining last week’s winning side.

Golf: Former world No.1 Tiger Woods struggled to a one-over par 71 yesterday at Day Two of the World Golf Championships Bridgestone Invitational in Ohio, his first event after an injury lay-off of nearly three months. Woods was on one-under 139 through 36 holes, seven strokes off the pace at Firestone Country Club, a course where he has won seven titles. The event serves as a tune-up for Woods for next week’s PGA Championship at Atlanta.

Swimming: World record-holder Jessica Hardy won the women’s 100m breaststroke title at the US Championships in California. Hardy won in 1min 6.81sec, well outside her world record time of 1:04.45. But she was comfortably in front of Ann Chandler, who was second in 1:07.17. Hardy withdrew from the 50m freestyle, opting not to double up on events as she did on the last day of the world championships on Sunday in Shanghai, where she won individual gold in the 50m breaststroke.

Tennis: Reigning Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova will team up with Czech compatriot Tomas Berdych for the Hopman Cup of mixed teams in Australia at the turn of the year, their agent said. Kvitova and Berdych will use the tournament as training for the mixed doubles competition at the 2012 Olympics in London. The Hopman Cup will be played in Perth from December 31 to January 7. Jana Novotna and Petr Korda won the Czech Republic’s sole Hopman Cup, in 1994.
