For several years, in recent times, there was a tall man with a moustache who used to clean the shore of Sliema. He was diligent and conscientious, used to work alone and even used to make his own tools to pick up the rubbish.
Today, there are several cleaners who pick up rubbish but they leave a lot behind.
On July 27, a pigeon died on the steps leading to the shore opposite Don Bosco Street. The pigeon lay there for over four days up to August 2, when I asked one of the cleaners if he could pick it up.
The cleaner replied that the steps were not his duty but he offered to pick it up for me – which he did.
These steps are very dirty and have not been cleaned for some time.
The Sliema local council appear to have sufficient workers to keep our town clean but they obviously do not carry out any proper supervision.
