I could not agree more with Anthony Farrugia’s opinion piece regarding the “sense of lawlessness in Paceville” (July 23).

I am a mother of three children who regularly frequent Paceville, so I am frequently furnished with interesting stories of what goes on. As time goes by, the violent incidents are becoming more daring and are definitely increasing such as the boyfriend hitting his girlfriend, a gang of hooligans beating up some poor soul who dared to look at them, etc. Whenever I ask if there were any police present, the answer is always in the negative. Where are the police? Nowhere to be seen; probably huddled up having a chat in the square! Shouldn’t they be patrolling, this “half square mile” of Malta, making their presence felt, ensuring protection and safety to our children?

Why should I as a parent always be worried that my children could be accidentally involved in a fight? Why is it in this country that we always have to wait for something disastrous to happen before some serious action is taken?

Paceville is littered with youngsters (14 and 15-year-olds) especially during the summer months. The foreign students are our country’s marketing.

How many incidents can we afford them to be involved in? Isn’t it about time that law and order prevails? Or has no one that important been stabbed or beaten up yet?
