A 40-strong fleet of dinghies is ex-pected to take to the waters off Birżebbuġa this weekend for the annual St Peter’s sailing regatta.
The regatta is open to all classes of dinghies having a valid 2011 Portsmouth Yardstick number.
A minimum of five boats of the same type shall constitute a class. Additionally, all registered dinghies either than the IODA Optimist, will also race in the overall handicap class, the organisers said in a statement.
As in past editions, the IODA Optimist boats will form the backbone of the fleet; this will also be complemented by a sizeable number of Laser and the newly-introduced RS Feva classes.
Following last year’s record turnout, the Miracle class fleet will be back in full , ing its long presence on the local dinghy sailing scene.
Registration will open tomorrow at 10 a.m. to be followed by race briefing.
Six races are scheduled over the course of the weekend. First start tomorrow is at noon while on Sunday, racing starts at 10 a.m.
The regatta will come to a close with the prize-giving ceremony, to be held at the Birżebbuġa Sailing Club headquarters, situated at Wied il-Buni, after the last race on Sunday afternoon.
This year’s regatta is being sponsored by the Malta Business School – a division of Allied Consultants Ltd.
