Diplomas in dementia care
Health care provider CareMalta Group will offer a level 3 (MQF) City & Guilds diploma in awareness of dementia and level 3 (MQF) certificate in dementia care as from October.
The courses are aimed at individuals who are either already working in the field or wish to take up a career specialising in this aspect of elderly care.
The company will also be offering City & Guilds diploma/specialist diploma in health care for the third consecutive year. CareMalta said it had started offering a generous qualification allowance to all those who obtained a City & Guilds diploma in health care. And not a moment too soon. Hope that many will opt for this offer as we are sure going to need them, we already do, considering the rate at which Dementia is developing. For those who think that it's the same as caring for an elderly person, I'd like to point out that as for any specific condition, if you have no knowledge about it you cannot handle it properly. People having Dementia react differently from other people who are growing old. The condition changes them radically so as to make them different persons from those you knew. Likewise their behaviour changes and unless you knew the condition well, it would make caring for them that much more difficult for all concerned. I am learning this as my mother's condition progresses, while trying to stay abreast of what to expect. Special thanks go to those who care for our elderly with such dedication and love. Yes they do exist and God bless them.
