A Royal Air Force Tornado made an emergency landing at Malta International Airport this evening.

The aircraft landed at 7.30 p.m. and was escorted to Park 4.

The aircraft could be seen trailing smoke and foam had to be sprayed as soon as it landed. Smoke could also be seen coming out of the cockpit. An accompanying Tornado circled and left as soon as the one in trouble landed safely.

Sources said there were no weapons or fuel on board.
