Weighing scales used by supermarkets, street hawkers and sellers of precious metals, among others, will start to be checked from next month to make sure they give the right weight.

The verification will be carried out by the Malta Competition and Consumer Affairs Authority under Legal Notice 223 of 2011.

The authority warned that all scales on which customers’ bills are based should be correct and should be adjusted if not.
