Bologna have won the race to sign sought-after midfielder Alessandro Diamanti.

The 28-year-old, who won his only Italy cap last year, has been linked with a number of clubs after his team, Brescia, suffered relegation last season.

Serie A rivals Sampdoria and Fiorentina had both reportedly been keen on the former West Ham United player, but Bologna confirmed his signature yesterday.

“Bologna FC is delighted to announce that we have have reached an agreement with Brescia Calcio for the transfer of Ales-sandro Diamanti on a co-ownership deal,” a statement on the club’s official website, www.bolognafc.it, read.

The 28-year-old, who started his career with Serie C2 side Prato in 1999, scored six goals in 32 league games for Brescia last term.

He joined the northern minnows on a five-year contract after a spell in England with London club West Ham.

Meanwhile, Bologna are also keen to sign Juve’s teenager Frederik Sorensen.

The 19-year-old defender was a revelation in Turin last season when he was promoted to the first team from the youth set-up.

Although impressed by his performances, Juve want to send him out on loan to another club in order to gain experience.

Bologna are very interested in the Under-21 international, but they’ve asked to sign a 50 per cent share in him rather than just simply take him on a temporary basis.
