Lava spewed from a crater of the giant Etna volcano in Sicily last night.  The lava flowed into a valley overnight and did not represent a danger to inhabited areas, police said.

Etna is the highest active volcano in Europe at 3,295 metres (10,810 feet). Its last eruption was in May.
