Stella Maris College Scout Group recently held its annual summer camp at the Baħar iċ-Ċagħaq scout camp site.

Several activities were organised for participants, including an exercise which required the Rover Crew and Venture Unit to engineer, build and float a ridge tent on a large, pre-built raft in the bay. The tent served as their shelter for almost a week. Other activities included canoeing, snorkelling, fishing, water rescue, geocaching and hikes. Scouts also spent a night in a nearby cave.

Participants had the opportunity to build camp ovens, take part in a cooking competition and race in cardboard boats, while working to achieve their swimmer, canoeist, camper, camp cook, model maker, instructor and entertainer badges.

Younger Cubs focused on activities pertaining to safety at sea, including games and competitions.

An investiture and ‘going up’ ceremony was held during the campfire evening, where seven Cubs graduated to the Troop Section, and another scout joined the Stella Maris College Scout Group.

The Stella Maris College Scout Group was established in 1956, and currently consists of circa 75 members, divided into four sections according to age.
