Eco-friendly pedestrian crossing signage manufactured by Smart Light Systems of Mosta is to be installed in additional areas of Attard following a successful pilot project.
Smart Light Systems collected data and feedback on the first prototype of eco-friendly pedestrian crossing signs installed near St Nicholas Primary School over eight weeks before developing the product further.
Now, more organisations are adopting the signage, including Iklin council and Transport Malta. In Sliema, the eco-friendly pedestrian crossings have been installed on the approach road to The Point from Sliema Ferries for additional pedestrian safety and visibility.
Each crossing is lit using environment-friendly light emitting diodes (LEDs) which emit no carbon emissions by using 100 per cent renewable solar energy.
The LEDs offer advanced lighting technology and require zero consumption of state-provided electricity. Sensors allow the signs to light up as soon as natural light dips under a specific level.
“More councils are expressing interest in eco-friendly outdoor lighting, traffic signs and traffic management systems,” Smart Light Systems finance and operations director Jonathan Borg said. “Green initiatives taken by local councils enable us to develop more eco-friendly products.”
The eco-friendly lighting used for this pedestrian crossing has been researched and designed in Malta and certified to highest EU and German standards.
Smart Light Systems is a Maltese company specialising in cost-effective applications for lighting solutions. All Smart Light Systems lighting products are researched, developed and manufactured in Malta and Germany.
