Malta will be providing training courses in heritage restoration to Palestinian students under an agreement signed yesterday with the Palestinian Authority in the West Bank city of Ramallah.
The agreement was signed by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Tonio Borg and the Palestinian Authority’s Tourism Minister Khouloud Daibes.
Dr Borg later visited Israel where he signed an agreement on the Avoidance of Double Taxation with Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman. Dr Borg also met Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Last year, Malta imported €8.3 million, mostly in the form of mineral fuels, from Israel, and in return exported €3.8 million. There are currently 68 companies here with Israeli shareholding.
Exports improved by 58 per cent in 2010 over the previous year. The major export product categories are organic chemicals, cereals and pharmaceuticals.
