A profusion of authentic Maltese food will form part of an extensive buffet spread that will be laid out in Mġarr village square on Sunday.
This is being prepared by Il- Barri restaurant. The event is aimed to be a social gathering for anybody from the Australian and Maltese community, but everyone can attend.
Back in the Land of Oz there is a well-known rock ‘n’ roll artist with Maltese origins – Charles Curmi – who initiated this event in an effort to bring together members of that community.
Il-Barri restaurant will be serving delicious Maltese dishes including traditional appetisers, baked rice, pasta with rabbit sauce, soups, traditional rabbit in gravy, horsemeat, roasted quails, braġoli and swordfish as well as a selection of sweets and fresh fruits from the village.
The wines chosen to accompany these dishes are all from the Medina DOK Malta range of quality wines produced by award–winning winemaker Emmanuel Delicata.
The wines available are the outstanding 2010 Vintage Medina Sauvignon Blanc, the fruit-packed 2010 Medina Rosé Grenache and the fruity, lightbodied Medina Syrah Carignan Grenache.
The event starts at about 7 p.m. while food will start to be served at 8 p.m. Tickets for the price of €25 for adults and €12 for children under 12 can be booked from Il-Barri Restaurant on 2157 3235 or 7961 7744.
Live music will be provided by Roc-a-Tac, an Australian rock ‘n’ roll band that will be entertaining the crowd with live rock music from rockabilly, country rock and rhythm & blues.
Three food and wine combin-ations to try out are definitely the swordfish and the Medina Sauvignon Blanc, the Medina Rosé Grenache with the baked rice and the Medina Syrah Carignan Grenache with either the rabbit or the roast quail.
