A second Tornado GR4 bomber of the Royal Air Force has made an emergency landing at Malta International Airport.

It flew in at about 5 a.m. today after reporting hydraulic problems. Another Tornado flew in early yesterday afternoon and is awaiting repair.

The aircraft are the first from the RAF to make emergency landings in Malta since the conflict in Libya started. Both aircraft are parked on Apron 4.

The Tornados, which each carry a pilot and a weapons officer, are based at Gioia del Colle and are taking part in Operation Unified Protector.

Both aircraft were flying in pairs. The serviceable aircraft in both cases flew on to Gioia del Colle. The technical problems are not thought to be the result of enemy action.
