The owners of a ship that escaped from Misurata and made it to Grand Harbour two months ago was yesterday ordered to pay over €67,000 to the transport authority.
Mr Justice Silvio Meli delivered the judgment following an application filed by the authority against the Georgian-registered ship MV Vasilios N.
The court heard that after the ship escaped from Misurata, she entered Grand Harbour on May 15. The vessel and its crew were abandoned by the ship owners and operators but the authority had continued to supply the ship with fuel and the crew with food and water.
The ship ran up a bill with the authority of €67,490.45, which included the supplies and port and anchorage fees.
In yesterday’s judgment, the court noted that the ship’s captain had made efforts to contact the owners and operators but to no avail. It ordered the owners to pay the authority the amount owed.
