A 39-year old Maltese diver was rescued by an Armed Forces of Malta helicopter today after finding himself in difficulties the rough seas off Dwejra, Gozo.

Godwin Abela was diving with another diver but was unable to return to shore. His diving companion managed to make it to shore and with the help of passersby, alerted the authorities.

Mr Abela was located and winch-hoisted safely onbaord an Alouette helicopter and taken to a awaiting ambulance nearby. He is good health but slightly fatigued after the experience, the AFM said.
