Not all the Arriva buses seem to be air-conditioned, at least in Gozo, as had been promised; and not all vehicles are new King Longs either.
It appears that about 80 buses are second-hand. These are probably the ones which are not air-conditioned (with small rectangular windows high up).
It is sad to see that the public, which had very high expectations has to tolerate this situation, besides all the other problems related to the supposedly improved service, without being able to change anything. Perhaps some just avoid using the service unless they absolutely have to in this stifling heat.
This was not, I believe, Arriva’s initial aim. But what do you expect people to prefer to commute in – an air-conditioned car or a mobile sauna?
Also, we were told fares would barely change for commuters.
However, because of the way I will need to use the public transport system (due to my work schedule), I will have to fork out €1.30 daily instead of the previous €0.54 for a 10-minute ride once a day.
