The Cleaner Technology Centre recently launched the sixth edition of the Environment Award forEnterprise to acknowledge the contribution of industry in favour ofsustainable development.
The aim of these awards is to give recognition to industries or organisations which, through their policies, practices and processes, help bring about social and economic development while reducing the impact of their operations on the environment.
Another aim is to spur more organisations to take measures in favour of the environment.
The award will be given in three categories: Management Award for Sustainable Development; Conservation Award for Sustainable Development; and Environment Protection Initiative Award for SMEs.
Last year’s winners were General Soft Drinks Co Ltd, Medichem Manufacturing (Malta) Ltd and Mater Dei Hospital. Honourable mentions were given to HSBC Bank (Malta) Ltd, Intercontinental (Malta) Hotel, Yellow Pages (Malta) Ltd and The Hilton (Malta) Hotel.
This year, another award – Waste Minimisation – instituted by Wasteserv Malta, in conjunction with the Cleaner Technology Centre, will be given. This award is intended to recognise businesses and organisations in Malta that have implemented successful waste reduction, reuse and recycled product procurement programmes.
Application deadline is August 31. Applications will be assessed by a special committee consisting of experts from various sectors. The winners in each category are awarded a specially commissioned trophy and a certificate. The winners will also be helped to compete in the European Environment Award Programme run by the DG Environment of the European Commission.
Details and application forms can be obtained from the Cleaner Technology Centre via e-mail: ctcmalta@gmail.com.
