The 7th edition of the Kinemastik Short Film Festival will take place at Herbert Ganado Gardens, Floriana on Saturday and next Sunday .
Organisers say they have prepared an interesting selection of latest short works from Malta and abroad.
Some of the highlights include Scenes from the Suburbs by Spike Jonze, La Ducha by María José San Martin and Daqqet ix-Xita by Kenneth Scicluna.
A group of films set in Glasgow’s celebrated Savoy Centre, curated by Cara Connolly and Martin Clark, will be shown on Neck of the Woods screen on Saturday.
Connolly and Clark met in their early 20s in Glasgow, Scotland. They both trained as fine art photographers at Glasgow School of Art, and began their careers making video art, which they found fulfilling yet lonely. Now they make documentaries together, and aren’t lonely anymore.
“With the Savoy Centre Films we are making for Kinemastik, we wanted to see how different artists and filmmakers responded to this kaleidoscopic indoor market. Many small parts make the whole of the Savoy Centre, and we wanted to do the same thing with this ongoing collection of films,” they said.
Doors will open at 8 p.m. Entrance is €7 or €12 for block tickets. Students can enter both nights for €8 or one night for €7 (student ID is a must). Tickets are available at St James Cavalier and Kinemastik. The ticket hotlines are 2122 3200 and 9924 2815.
Once the screenings on Saturday night are over, there will be a mid-festival party at Torri Mamo in Marsascala starting at 11.30 p.m.. Entertainment will be provided by an eclectic line up that includes Ali (Brighton), Malta- born and London-based Capitol K (Faith and Industry), and Phil Adams (Rough Trade).
Entrance to the party is €5 or €2 for guests in possession of a Kinemastik Membership card or a block ticket to the festival.
The annual Children’s Film Festival, Little Rock People, will be held next Sunday from 7 p.m. at Herbert Ganado Gardens.
Prior to the festival, a two-day workshop for children (aged 4-12) will be held at St James Cavalier, Valletta, and guided by Joanna Tabone, Adrian Abela, Aidan Corlett, Sean Decelis and St James Kids Club team, lead by Amanda Palmieri. Titled ‘Silhouette Dreaming’, this workshop will mostly tackle shadow puppet theatre and stop motion animation.
A film made at the workshop will be screened at the Little Rock People festival next Sunday.
