Katy Perry leads MTV 2011 Video Music Awards nominations

Pop singer Katy Perry won a leading nine nominations for the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards.

British best-selling star Adele earned seven nominations, including Video of the Year and Best Pop Video, for her single Rolling In The Deep. Her second album, 21, is the biggest-selling album of the year.

Kanye West picked seven nominations while Bruno Mars earned four nominations.

Lady Gaga, Beyonce, Eminem, rock band Thirty Seconds to Mars and female rapper Nicki Minaj got three nominations each.

The awards will be handed out at a ceremony in Los Angeles on August 28.
