Engineers have repaired Misurata's mobile network following a 30-hour trip in a fishing boat from Malta taking with them the necessary equipment to return connectivity to the Libyan city, recently retaken by rebels.

The fighting has left the city a mess extensively damaging its infrastructure.

Now that the city has its mobile network repaired, residents can again start communicating with friends and contacts.

According to online media reports, the engineers integrated the equipment they took from Malta into an Ericsson base station that was still standing.

The network is being entirely funded by donations, mainly from Libyans living abroad.
