The 18th edition of the Elderly of the Year Award has been launched with the Parliamentary Secretary for the Elderly and Community Care, Mario Galea saying the experts estimated there would be 150,681 elderly in Malta and nine billion in the world in 2050.
“Elderly people are an important resource in their community because of the great contribution they give to the family,” he said.
He appealed to the public, local councils and associations to nominate elderly people for the prize that recognises the work they carry out.
Nominations will be accepted until September 5 with the winner being announced on October 7.
Application forms can be collected from the Elderly Service Centre, Old Mint Street, Valletta or from the Elderly Department, St Francis Square, Victoria or downloaded from www.ehealth.gov.mt.
