Ibrox Stadium seat to be auctioned off

A seat from Ibrox Stadium believed to be from the 1920s, will be auctioned off this week. The oak and cast-iron seat was retrieved when the Glasgow Rangers’ stadium was being upgraded in the 1970s.

A spokesman for McTear’s Auctioneers said the seat No 258 could fetch £300 during the auction tomorrow.

The appearance of the stadium had changed little for several decades, until a dramatic redevelopment over the final decades of the twentieth century.

After the Ibrox disaster of 1971, which resulted in the death of 66 spectators, the club, led by general manager Willie Waddell, began to develop a more modern and safe stadium.
