GWU 'has majority' at Palumbo dockyard
The GWU has been officially declared to be the representative of the majority of the industrial workers at the Palumbo dockyard, the union said.
It said the necessary verification had been made by the Registrar of Trade Unions.
The union augured that there would be a close industrial relations with the dockyard in the interests of the workers and the company.

It would be interesting to hear how the company is doing and how many people are in their employ. Hope they do well. Bil-qatra l-qatra ttintela l-garra.

I have a feeling that the GWU will be more reasonable with Palumbo than with the government. I hasten to amend that to "with the Nationalist government", as the GWU was always non-existent with the Labour Government. But whatever happens, my mind is at rest that I will no longer have to subsidize a loss making entity.

The GWU is a different kettle of fish when dealing with private companies. It only tries to cause havoc when dealing with government-owned ones. (At least this is what I think)

Is it so hard for people like Nenu Aquilina and Kleaven Maniscalco to accept the will of the workers concerned?

Kleaven Maniscalco if Palumbo treats the workers well and not as slaves then it should not have any problems.

Who is afraid of Virginia Wolf??? Unions are their to protect workers and their interests. If they do less or more, they are not worth the fee the get from their members.
Marriage or Divorce, it has been proven that the Government is not afraid of any Union. You know why? Because when trouble brews for workers, being individual or group cases, it is the Union who sits (or should sit, anyway) round a table and discuss.
Now that I am retired myself, and proundly confirm that I was one of the founding members of the UHM, when this meant trouble, I urge all workers not to give up on Union Membership. It would be giving up a right, and and obligation, on something that our fathers and grandfathers fought so hard to achieve. Unionization is one of the fondamental rights of all workers.
