• Victoria celebrates the feast of St George today. Gozo Bishop Mario Grech, accompanied by the basilica Chapter and clergy, leads a procession from the Episcopal palace in Republic Street to the basilica at 8 a.m., followed by a pontifical concelebrated Mass at 8.30 a.m. Joseph Vella’s Mass in D in honour of St George Princeps Martyrium (1976) will be performed.

Marches by the St George’s Band of Qormi and St Margaret Band of Sannat will be held at11 a.m.

Archpriest Mgr Paul Cardona leads pontifical vespers at 6 p.m., followed by the procession with the statue of St George, led by Mgr Grech at 7.30 p.m. The La Stella Band will take part. Festivities end with a band march by La Stella from Republic Street to St George’s Square at 11 p.m.

• ‘Textures of Gozo’, a photographic exhibition by Peter Christopher, is on show at the Banca Giuratale, Victoria, until July 23. It is open on weekdays between 8 a.m. and 12.30 p.m. and at weekends between 9 a.m. and noon.

• The Bethel Charismatic Group will be organising a prayer meeting at the church of Our Lady of Pompeii, Victoria, on Saturdayat 7 p.m.

• The diocesan Eucharistic Movement will be holding a prayer evening at Santa Marta chapel, tal-Għonq, Victoria, on Saturday at 8.30 p.m., followed by Mass at midnight.

• Xaghra council will be holding ‘Il-Pjazza tax-Xagħra Alive’ in Victory Square on July 29 and 30. A Maltese traditional dinner will be held on July 29 at 8.30 p.m. Folk music and dancing will be held. Proceeds will go towards the feast of the Nativity of Our Lady.

Tickets can be obtained from the fundraising committee by July 27.

On July 30, the programme starts with Mass, accompanied by folk singing, at the basilica of the Nativity of Our Lady at 7.30 p.m.

At 8.30 p.m. there will be the inauguration of an exhibition of military cars along Maria Bambina Street and 8th September Avenue.

An exhibition of local crafts, including painting, sculpture and airbrush painting will be held. There will also be a re-enactment event by the Xagħra Historical Re-enactment Group.

At the basilica there will be an organ concert and a guided tour.

On the main stage in Victory Square, there will be a performance by singer Glenn Vella,followed by a musical concert by the Australian rock band Rocatac. The activity will come to an end with a grand concert by Cash and Band. • A fundraising evening towards the restoration of Xlendi Tower will be held at the Kempinski San Lawrenz Hotel on July at 7 p.m.

The evening will include a concert of popular arias and songs,an exhibition of works by various artists and a reception on theterrace.

A painting of Xlendi Tower, donated by Henry Alamango will be auctioned. Tickets, at €25, are available from Bookworm inVictoria or from Din l-Art Ħelwa at 133, Melita Street, Valletta, from 8.30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
