Wise Owl Publications have issued another edition of their popular magazines for Maltese children of all ages.
Like the preceding editions, this issue is another lavish presentation of illustrations, competitions and educational content, seeped in a veritable riot of brilliant colours, so very tempting to the eyes of young readers.
In her editorial, Natalie Portelli, who edits this series and who is a talented writer of books and magazines for children and adolescents, immediately stresses to her young readers the importance of personal hygiene and respect for the environment.
Then follows a real treat for all children to enjoy and learn from. There are many quizzes with prizes attached, simple conjuring tricks, the usual essay about animals, useful advice in and out of school, delightful information about frogs and their habitat, a cookery lesson, and a wonderful table-game which features animals.
There is a corner which deals exclusively with Maltese folklore, by Guido Lanfranco, two pages deal with gardening, and there is also an Aesop fable adapted by Portelli.
Another two pages contain jokes in poetry form, which serve the dual purpose of learning with a smile. And the cherry on the cake is another hilarious adventure of Pawlu Praspar, who once again brings down the curtain on another issue.
Magazines for children are hard to come by; magazines like this one are even harder to find, and their appeal, form and educational potential are enormous. Wise Owl Publications are giving a free book with each copy of the magazine. It sells at €4 per copy.
