This year’s edition of the Farsons Great Beer Festival will mark the event’s 30th anniversary. The festival, a combination of entertainment, local talent and fine beers on the island, has long been regarded as a regular fixture in the Maltese summer calendar.

This year’s edition will be held at Ta’ Qali Park starting on Friday.

The festival, which will open daily at 8 p.m, will run until July 31. Entrance to the festival is free.

The first Farsons Beer Festival was held in 1981 in Mrieħel, with subsequent editions being held in Floriana, Sliema and Ta’ Xbiex.

The festival has been held at Ta’ Qali for the last 10 years, where it has grown into Malta’s largest outdoor beer and music festival, drawing record attendances.

Attended by people of all ages in an open-air location, the festival offers a night out for family and friends, locals and tourists alike who flock to Ta’ Qali to see Malta’s established artists and bands perform on two stages every night.

Due to the numerous requests from bands wishing to perform at the festival, this year, for the first time, a preliminary music competition was organised in collaboration with Vodafone and Hard Rock Café to choose the new bands that would get the opportunity to perform on the Rock Stage.

The winning bands, namely Bridget Bone, Plan Zero and 12th Ode will join the likes of Red Electrick, The Rifffs, Dolls for Idols, Bletchley Park, Eve Ransom, The Areola Treat, Cable 35, Frenzy Mono, Fire, Fakawi and many more who will be shaking the Rock Stage to its foundations.

Next Sunday will also feature a special Juuls Reggae Party, while the following night will be dedicated to metal, with performances from Loathe, Club Murder, Indigo Darkpsych, Norm Rejection and In The Name Of.

The main stage, on the other hand, will focus on acts and artists catering for the mainstream.

Among the long list of scheduled acts, one finds the likes of Zoo and a special edition of the Reflex 1980s Party as well as established names such as The Characters, Tribali, Airport Impressions, Freddie Portelli, Big Band Brothers, Kultural, OzzyLino, Thea Saliba, Glen Vella, Alison Ellul, Wayne Micallef, Chess, Sidewalk, Lyndsay Pace, Raquela DG, Joe Demicoli and a special rock ‘n roll act from Roc-A-Tac, who will be flying in from Australia especially for the performance.
