It’s no secret that the Maltese metal scene has been growing at an incredible rate in recent years.

New bands are emerging year-in, year-out and established ones taking the bolder step and venturing beyond our shores, making Malta a prominent source for quality metal music.

Apart from the several gigs staged locally throughout the year, one of the more prominent metal events has to be Xtreme Metal Assault (XMA), a festival that brings the Maltese metal scene and all its diverse genres under one roof.

This year’s edition will be held outdoors at Buskett Gardens on August 13. The festival will feature 12 bands, namely 26 Other Worlds, Club Murder, Dying Signals, Insurgence, In The Name Of, Majesty, Myopic Destiny, Rising Sunset, Slit, Oblique Visions, Ruin (ex-Tripwire) and Cyanide, each playing a 35-minute set.

Further to this line-up, Chaotic Remains and Thy Legion will be performing at V-GEN in Paceville on August 12 as part of XMA 2011.

Tickets for this gig cost €3, while tickets for XMA 2011 cost €15. However, those who attend the V-GEN gig will only pay €12 for the XMA ticket.

Transport will be available to all locations after the event by booking upon entrance (payment directly to minivan owners).

Doors open at 5 p.m., with the first band starting at 6 p.m. sharp.
