A new shift model for Arriva bus drivers should come into effect at the end of the month following changes in the roster which will start on Sunday, the General Workers' Union said.

It said in a statement that another meeting was held with Arriva today to discuss the roster.

The union said that until the new shift model comes into effect, the provisions which had been agreed upon two weeks ago remain in place.

These include that workers would be paid overtime for hours worked over and above the contract theiy signed and those working on a 12-hour split shift would get an additional €35 as compensation.

The new shift, where a third of drivers will stop working at 4 p.m. with the others starting at 1 p.m. will start to be implemented at the end of the month.

Both the GWU and Arriva agreed that the drivers who worked in the past 15 days did their best to give the people the best possible service.

The union thanked the workers for showing a sense of duty in spite of difficulties.
