The very welcome news item stated that the short-term bus network is under review. Therefore kindly give us back the Valletta direct route No. 49. The heart of Buġibba has been ignored. There are many hotels and residents in the area but buses leave the Qawra terminus and travel out exclusively via Islets Promenade, Triq it-Trunċiera and Qawra Road. This route is some three kilometres away from Buġibba proper. If it were not tragic it would be hilarious.
Buses are not travelling southwest via Islets Promenade but only in a northeast direction. But, on weekend evenings, Islets Promenade is closed to all traffic (to satisfy some outlets) and the buses are redirected to the old route, via Bordino Street.
Thus if the old route can be used to satisfy some individuals, why cannot it be used constantly during the day to satisfy all the people?
Another aspect is that Arriva was given a compensation not to use Bisazza Street. May I ask if any compensation was given to avoid Islets Promenade? If yes, how come nothing was mentioned? If no, is this a case of two weights and measures?
Answers and action please!
