The top-scoring club in England last season were Peterborough United, of League One. The Posh went goal-berserk as they netted 106 times, an average of 2.30 per game.
The exploits of season 1960-61 surely flashed back in the minds of the veteran Peterborough fans as that year the team fired a staggering 134 goals in the old Division Four... an average of 2.9 per match.
In the top flight, the scoring total of 1,063 marks an increase of 10 on the previous league campaign.
The remaining divisions all registered a plus. Globally, the total score aggregate of 5,585 is 302 goals more than the preceding season.
Only six clubs in the Premiership showed an increase on their previous total – Blackburn, Bolton, Fulham, Stoke, Wigan and Wolves. The biggest increase came from Wolves with 14 goals.

The Championship: 1,510 – an average of 2.73 goals per match (previous season: 1,425 – average 2.58).
League One: 1,506 – an average of 2.73 goals per match (previous season: 1,459 – average 2.64).
League Two: 1,506 – an average of 2.73 goals per match (previous season: 1,446 – average 2.62).
Incidentally, the scoring averages in all three lower divisions is equal at 2.73.
