UK based travel site for Malta being auctioned

Tech savvy internet entrepreneurs around the world are placing auction bids on www.yourmalta.com, a UK based travel site for Malta – with bids so far from Malaysia, Dubai, the US and Russia, the UK, Sweden and the Czech Republic.

With just over a week to go, the auction for the Malta holidays resource has already reached the top 30 out of over 1,000 internet sites on offer at the specialist auction site, and could reach the top 10 by the end of the auction on July 21.

www.yourmalta.com was number one in the search engines for numerous Malta tourist related search phrases such as Malta holidays for two years before server problems and subsequent downtime saw it drop in Google’s positionings, although it has started to climb again in recent weeks since the server problems were solved.

Roger Munns, managing director of International Property Tribune, who created the site in 2005, believes that tourist related businesses in Malta could be missing out on an opportunity to take over a travel site that at one time generated nearly 400,000 visitors a year from tourists considering booking flights, hotels and holidays in Malta.

“The internet community has confidence that yourmalta will return to the top positions it held before, and that it will give a good return on investment,” he commented.

“But the surprise is that there hasn’t been interest from tourist related businesses in Malta itself.”

“With the price currently below €1,000 owning yourmalta could transform occupancy rates for an island hotel – and it could also be a first class use of a marketing budget for any tourist related business to own, as well as hotels.”
