A toddler who fell 10 storeys and survived after being caught by a passer-by has woken from a 10-day coma, Chinese state media has reported.

The two-year-old girl plunged from the window of her family's apartment in eastern Zhejiang province on July 2 after being left unattended.

Xinhua News Agency said she had been unconscious since the fall but opened her eyes today and called out to her parents.

The girl, nicknamed Niu Niu, was in a critical condition with serious internal injuries when she was taken to hospital.

Xinhua quoted a doctor as saying that now her heartbeat, blood pressure and pulse are all normal "we can assume she's out of danger".

The passer-by, a neighbour, who saved her from hitting the ground fractured her arm.
