Two members of the Police Mobile Squad who last year foiled the hold-up at HSBC headquarters, were decorated for a second time today after they foiled a €64,000 robbery on March 13.
The decorations were presented during a ceremony held to mark Police Day.
The two officers foiled a theft from a warehouse at Tal-Handaq, Qormi and, together with colleagues from Qormi police station, including a woman sergeant and a male constable, managed to arrest the thieves, the police said.
During this morning's ceremony, long service medals were awarded to 15 policemen serving in the police band, the precision drill team, the mounted police and the police Guard of Honour. 40 policemen, including two inspectors received the First Clasp and another was presented the Second Clasp.
Certificates of Merit were presented to a number of policemen for failing to take sick leave, including an assistant commissioner and two superintendents.
Certificates were presented to 47 policemen following their retirement after 25 years of service.
The presentations were made by Home Affairs Minister Carm Mifsud Bonnici and Police Commissioner John Rizzo.
Police Day events today included Mass at St John's Co-Cathedral celebrated by Archbishop Paul Cremona.
