The graceful Italian Navy sail training ship Amerigo Vespucci has sailed into Grand Harbour on a four-day stop. 

It is the ship's first visit to Malta since 1993.

The Amerigo Vespucci was built in 1931. It is a 101m- long sailing ship with three masts an an engine used to train sailors the basics of life at sea. 

The ship also carries out the role of ambassador for culture and Italian naval tradition. 

After Malta, the ship will sail to Haifa, Limassol, Istanbul, Odessa, Sevastopol, Piraeus and back to Livorno on September 18.
