I wrote a letter on May 29 regarding a vehicle, with a tax disc that expired in September last year, which had been abandoned last October in Triq ta’ Masrija, Mellieħa.

I had reported this to the relevant authorities three times, and was told the police had claimed the car had a current tax disc.

However, your publication of my letter, accompanied by a photograph of the tax disc, produced dividends: two days later: on May 31, a yellow sticker was placed by the police under one of the rusty wipers, saying that by order of the Police Commissioner, the vehicle had to be removed by the owner ‘within eight days’, otherwise the police would remove it at the owner’s cost.

How long are eight days? You might say, just one day over a week. Not so, because the car is still rotting and rusting exactly where it has been for the past nine-and-a-half months!

Maybe this letter might jog the memory of the person/s in charge of removing such vehicles.
