Video: Joseph Calleja concert highlights
Joseph Calleja gave a magnificent concert on the Granaries in Floriana on Saturday, accompanied by New Zealand soprano Hayley Westenra and Italian legend Lucio Dalla.
The tenor paid tribute to Mary Fenech Adami with a rendition of Ave Maria and to the late President Emeritus Guido de Marco when he sang Caruso.
The concert was presented by NnG Productions.
The concert was the first of four for Calleja this month. On the 20th he will participate in a gala concert in Regensburg, Germany. On the 24th he features in the BBC Proms and on the 28th he will be in Jerusalem with soprano Renée Fleming and conductor Zubin Mehta at a concert honouring the legacy of American tenor Richard Tucker.

Bravo Joseph and Hayley Westenra !. Today I viewed the video of your Concert in Valetta yesterday. It seems it was a great performance by all concerned, and wish I had been there myself. I would b e very grateful if someone could tell me if there willbe a DVD of this Concert or even better on BLu-Ray.
I did listen to Josep on Classic FM, and consider that he has a great future all over the World,s Opera Houses. Prosit !

Truly an unforgettable concert. Compliments to the children's choir too as they worked really hard with hours and hours of rehearsals in preparation for this event. Well done kids!!

What a relief from the arrogant figure brought over to perform on the Granaries the previous week. Malta is truly proud of you Joseph and wishes you many more such brilliant performances wherever you are on contract to perform.
Pity we cannot have you performing in Malta more often, but then quality and not quantity are the essential ingredients of appreciation . I never tire listening to your renditions and thanks to the internet/UTube, I always follow your achievements abroad. Thanks to NnG Promotions and the Times of Malta for providing a sample of the Concert on Video.

Mr Calleja, When will you consider visiting Australia? Can you please let me know if there will be a dvd of the concert? Thank-you

I was suggesting a noble gesture by a great artist towards his fellow countryman, some of whom may be less fortunate than him. It was not intended as a "begging" plea.
Pavarotti amongst others did this before :
1991: Pavarotti sings in the British rain
Italian tenor Luciano Pavarotti has given a huge free concert in London's Hyde Park to celebrate 30 years in opera.
A crowd of 100,000 - out of an expected 250,000 - stood in the rain to watch Pavarotti perform 20 arias by Verdi, Puccini, Bizet and Wagner.
It was the biggest outdoor music event in Hyde Park since the Rolling Stones performed there in 1969.

Ta Qali Football Stadium - 20,000 stands and the football pitch would take another 50,000 i guess.. enough ?

The concert was a magnificent one.BRAVO BRAVO BRAVO JOSEPH. The idea of a free concert is a very good one BUT BUT, Can anybody suggest a place where to hold it. I am sure that all Malta will be there plus the Tourists who will be visiting the Island. Bu we have no place for such a big concert. No FOSOS and especially now no TA` QALI wiill hold such a big crowd. Please make a suggestion for a place and may be it will materialize one day. It could be easily arranged and sponsored by all our local banks. After all they all show how much profit they do at the end of the year. Part of it could be used for the sponsorship.

Dear Joseph, I was there yesterday, for the first time, and all I can say is: Wow! You make us so, so proud of you. Well done. You left me speechless. I will be back next year, God willing. Your voice gives one the shivers. God bless you and all that you do.

I liked Caruso, it was a great treat hearing it from the same person who wrote it, Dalla and Calleja gave the best interpretation. I liked also atteni al luppo with the choir making this great. During this song I saw Lucio looking stright in the eyes of the people on the front row.

Mr Joseph Calleja you are like a breath of fresh air. You seem to make up for all the negative things that are going on in Malta at the moment. You make Malta and the Maltese very proud. Thank you for sharing your voice and your talent with us. God bless.

I have no doubt that Mr Calleja is good, very good.I have been to some of his performances and I was never disappointed. One suggestion I would like to put forward is this "How about a FREE concert, sometime, somewhere in Malta to enable EVERYBODY to experience his talents at least once."
Not everybody can afford the price of a ticket especially if they are bringing up a young family.

I can understand the comment of Mario, Joseph one day should dedicate a concert <ghal tal gallarija. who are very proud of him but cannot afford the prices. I am sure it will be double of MTV. All young people loves Joseph but cannot afford the prices. This concert can be simple and excpensive guests.
Joseph do it , you are in our heart, yesterday I was shivering hearing you sing.

Mr. Sciberras I have been saying this for some time now, and recently I sent an email to NnG Promotors but they did not answer me.
I call on Joseph Calleja to give us, to all people who can't afford the price of the ticket, especially the elderly, a concert in the near future.
Hope that he will listen to us. i am a big fan of him, although I am 62 yrs, but just could not afford the ticket yesterday.

I have not had the pleasure of listening the voice of Joseph Callejja in the open air, but I have more than once heard his voice in concerts on T.V. free of charge.

Do you work for free?
If there is anyone who can't afford the ticket, then you may watch it on TV as suggested below, or behind the barriers at the Granaries.
How can you expect someone to put up a very expensive concert, with no return?
This ridiculous mentality that we are owed a free ticket to everything we desire, must go! Nothing is free!

I did not attend the concert due to other commitments however I wish to point out especially to Ms Busuttil.. If the prices where exorbitant I would agree to your point, however 35 euros (the basic standing ticket, correct me if I'm not) is not overpriced at all! Give him a break! If you want free shows go to other concerts/festivals which are free of charge.... Go to the Isle of MTV, or L-Ghana tal-Poplu or the rest of them. This guy is for real! if he does give a free concert, hats off, but stop moaning all of you lot! He deserves what he has worked or with such dedication. If you afford a mobile phone and its bills, internet, and all the basic commodities, then YOU afford 35 euros if you wish to hear Joseph so much!

I heard him singing on a BBC programme recently. Fantastic. I'm looking forward to his performance in the Proms.
