Maltese and Gozitan gays and lesbians and people in support of their cause gathered in Valletta today for the annual gay pride march, aimed to raise awareness about their rights.

Around 200 people blew whistles and waved flags and carried placards calling for equal rights as they set off from St George's Square and walked up through Republic Street and Merchants Street.

The walk, called I Am Pride, was organised by the Malta Gay Rights Movement.

It was was also attended by Nationalist and Labour MPs, including Opposition leader Joseph Muscat, Alternattiva Demokratika and other organisations such as Moviment Graffiti, Zminijietna and the Forum Zghazagh Laburisti.
