While Manchester City are sometimes criticised for having too many foreign players in their ranks, Roberto Mancini’s side still made it into the English record books last season.

In England’s second Euro 2012 qualifier, a 3-1 triumph in Switzerland, Fabio Capello’s side finished with six Manchester City players on the field –Joe Hart, Joleon Lescott, Gareth Barry, James Milner, Adam Johnson and Shaun Wright-Phillips.

The all-time record for most players from one club to turn out for England in the same match belongs to Arsenal. In November 1934, in a friendly at Highbury against Italy, the Gunners had seven players in the England team who won 3-2. These were Frank Moss, George Male, Edris Hapgood, Wilf Copping, Cliff Bastin, Ray Bowden and Ted Drake.

The other occasion when England fielded six from the same team came during the Ron Greenwood era, exactly in a European Championship finals match against Belgium in June 1980 which finished in a 1-1 draw.

Liverpool players Ray Clemence, Phil Neal, Phil Thompson, David Johnson, Terry McDermott and Ray Kennedy were in the English team in that 1980 game.
