The Royal Navy assault ship HMS Ocean has arrived in Malta on a break from operations off the Libyan coast.

The vessel has been flying Apache and other helicopters on missions mostly around the town of Misuratha.

HMS Ocean is the largest ship in the Royal Navy - which no longer has aircraft carriers.

She was constructed in the mid 1990 and has been involved in a number of humanitarian missions as well as the Iraq war.

The ship can deploy an assault force of Royal Marines using helicopters and landing craft. It was designed to carry up to 12 Sea King helicopters but can operate a range of other helicopters including the Chinook, Apache and the Marlin.

This is the ship's second visit to Malta.
