The GWU insisted today that workers should not suffer deductions of their pay because they arrived late for work owing to bus service delays.

In a statement, the union said it hoped the bus service wil be running according to schedule soon. It regretted the current disruption but said that employees who used the used to go to work should not suffer the consequences.

Earlier, the FOR.U.M trade unions group said that hundreds of workers arrived late because of the bus service delays.

Some workers arrived two hours late, others less than that. Many employers
were not very understanding and intimated that if tomorrow the workers
arrive late again, they would have a deduction of their pay, the group said.

"This state of affairs in unacceptable...FOR.U.M augurs that the situation will improve drastically as this is also having a very negative effect especially in hospitals, clinics, the airport and many other strategic places of work," FOR.U.M said.
