A Spanish man who broke into a parked car and stole about €400 worth of items in Mellieħa was given a suspended sentence yesterday. Juan Rodriguez Almeron, 50, residing at St Paul’s Bay, was given an eight-month jail term suspended for two years after he pleaded guilty to stealing from a car late on Friday night.

Mr Almeron broke into the car, parked outside the owner’s Mellieħa residence, and stole two haversacks containing cash, cameras and other items worth about €400 while the owner had popped inside for a few minutes.

Magistrate Anthony Vella presided over the case.

Police Inspector Therese Sciberras prosecuted.
