The National Volunteer Award has been launched to recognise the important work carried out by those who volunteer with non-profit organisations, charities and NGOs.
The award has been introduced by the Malta Council for the Volunteer Sector (MCVS) as part of the activities celebrating the European Year of Volunteering 2011.
MCVS said the award is intended to reward achievements in volunteering activities and raise awareness of the value and importance of volunteering.
The launch was presided over by MCVS chairman Robert Farrugia, who talked about the valuable contribution volunteers give towards society. “We are duty bound to raise public awareness of the crucial role volunteers play in our society and therefore they should be encouraged and supported,” Mr Farrugia said.
Members of the public and organisations can nominate individuals they believe to be deserving of the award. MCVS will receive nominations via e-mail at mcvs.meef@gov.mt. Nomination forms can be found on the MCVS website www.maltacvs.com or requested via e-mail. The closing date for nominations is October 5.
The recipient of the award will be selected by an independent board appointed by MCVS and the presentation of the award will take place on December 5.
