It is, to say the least, ironic that some people, while unreservedly admitting that President Emeritus Eddie Fenech Adami brought about in these islands full democracy, including full freedom of expression, should at the same time try to deny this freedom to its main architect by strongly objecting to the expression of his views on divorce.
Drawing on the bitter experience of so many nations all over the world, he strongly feels it is his duty to warn us about the unpleasant consequences of divorce, not least divorce as the harbinger of other harmful so-called liberties.
Besides, some ‘Yes to divorce’ exponents are, rather arrogantly in my view, insisting that all Members of Parliament should endorse the upcoming Bill irrespective of what their conscience dictates, thereby completely ignoring the 47 per cent of the population who voted No to divorce. Were this to happen, the vote of the latter would in no way be reflected in the proceedings on the divorce Bill, which would be most unfair.
